How it's counted

Everything on this page comes from SearchLight Denver, the Clerk's public campaign finance system, pulled September 28, 2026. We read two kinds of report: the monthly Campaign Finance Report, and the Qualifying Contribution Report that Fair Elections Fund candidates file to prove their hundred Denver donors. SearchLight's candidate page shows only the first kind, so a candidate can have a public donor list and still show zero there. We include both and drop duplicates, matching on the Clerk's transaction id and then on name, amount and date.

"Raised" is private money: people, businesses, committees, loans and in-kind gifts, as filed. Public matching funds from the Fair Elections Fund are shown separately. "People" counts individuals, minus anyone who shares the candidate's last name; those gifts get their own line because self-funding and family money are a different thing from a stranger's twenty dollars. Refunds are subtracted where a campaign reported them. "Fair Elections Fund: Yes" means the candidate has opted into the fund and not withdrawn, which caps their gifts at the fund limit. It does not mean they have qualified for matching money; the matching funds line shows who has actually received it.

Job categories are grouped by a fixed set of rules from the occupation and employer each donor typed on the form. Nobody is looked up or guessed at. When the rules can't tell, the gift lands in "Other" or "Not stated," and "self-employed" with no trade given counts as not stated. Gifts "at the maximum" are gifts at or above the cap that applies to that candidate: the fund cap for fund candidates, the ordinary cap for everyone else. A gift above a cap can be legal for a candidate who wasn't in the fund when it arrived, was refunded later, or was amended, and this page doesn't judge any of that.

"Where it went" is every expenditure the committee itemized, grouped by the same purpose rules as the 2023 spending page, with independent expenditures left out. Each bar splits into what was paid to a Colorado address and what left the state. A payee's state is the address on the invoice, which says who got paid, not where the work happened. The vacancy race reports monthly; the 2027 races report on a slower schedule, so their spending runs a couple of months behind their donors.

Filings lag. A candidate who has raised money since their last report looks smaller here than they are, and the dates on each card say how fresh the record is. Names, employers and payees are printed the way they were filed. Campaigns amend old filings, so a fresh pull moves a few percent. If you're a candidate and your row is wrong, write [email protected] and we'll re-pull. The pull script is in the site's public repository.
